The Dev Times #78
Halfway through each month, our newsletter for developers: The Dev Times, brings three reads that our own developers found interesting on the web, and two Transloadit updates that may interest you.
Node.js v22 has been released
Node.js 22 is here at last, and it comes with a suite of exciting updates! This release introduces require()
support for ES modules, a built-in WebSocket client, and enhanced server components. That's not all though: the V8 engine has been updated for better performance, and you can now run package.json
scripts directly with node --run
. The Node team is looking for feedback, so try out the new release and let them know what you think of version 22.

Standing out among those is the new actions API for handling user inputs and server mutations more intuitively. On top of that, the enhanced server components now make rendering on the server side even more efficient and powerful. There's too much for us to go into here, so read the full blog post for more details on all the changes this release brings. Dive in ›
Phoenix LiveView – real-time features without the need for JavaScript
Phoenix LiveView started as an experiment, in an attempt to create dynamic server-rendered applications without writing JavaScript. It is easy to get buried under the mountain of complexity that comes with modern web development – which is precisely what prompted Chris McCord to opt for a different, Elixir-driven approach that enables previously impossible things. For example, you can now deploy and see the changes appear almost instantly on your production site. If this interests you, Chris' experiment is live for you to try as part of the Phoenix framework.
