Some months have already gone by since our most recent team meetup back in August. That doesn’t mean we can’t still tell you a little bit about it, though! In fact, with the frosty days of winter upon us and at the start of a fresh new year, what’s better than a short trip down memory lane to reminisce on a few wonderful days spent baking in the Mediterranean sun?

Read ahead to find out who accompanied us on our island getaway, and what we got up to (spoiler: it wasn’t much!).

Kodak moments of our 2025 family trip

For a fully remote company like Transloadit, team get-togethers are a precious thing. When pretty much all communication between coworkers takes place on Slack in the form of text messages and audio calls – the weekly team meeting, during which cameras are on, notwithstanding – it can be easy to forget that behind every avatar, there is a person. And making actual connections, toward building team spirit and beyond, is especially challenging in an environment like that.

That’s why we like to organize these meetups on a regular basis, ideally once a year. Life tends to get in the way, though, which is why it was already nearly two years since most of us saw each other in person during an amazing trip to Athens in November of 2023. Fortunately, Transloadit co-founders Tim and Kevin decided earlier this year that the wait had gone on long enough – and they already knew precisely the right spot for our next outing.

Pre-production

Those in charge of running a fully remote company are not exempt from those challenges we just mentioned. Some things are best talked about face to face in order to ensure a continued common ground. That’s why Tim and Kevin have long since been in the habit of meeting up in person every few months, often somewhere smack dab in the middle between Berlin and Amsterdam. This spring, however, they figured they might as well add a splash of pleasure to their business, and seek out sunnier weather. A short stay on the island of Mallorca was thus booked.

While discussing all sorts of matters concerning the future of Transloadit, they couldn’t help but notice the small slice of heaven they suddenly found themselves in. And then the realization dawned: we really ought to show this to everyone else! Without much ado, plans were set in motion. A date was set for the middle of August and everyone was invited. And by everyone, we mean everyone.

This edition of the Transloadit team meetup was going to be a special one: a trip for the whole family!

The location

A view of our hotel beside the bay

The destination of choice for our Mediterranean mini-break was a beachfront hotel inside a picturesque bay, near the northernmost point of Mallorca. Away from most of the hustle and bustle of the island, the spot offered relative peace and quiet, and a spectacular view of the sea and the Cavall Bernat mountain range.

The weather was blisteringly hot, but the pool and the cocktails were cold – so we were in for a good time!

The script

Usually, when giving you these recaps of our team meetups, we like to break things down in minute detail – taking you along for the ride hour by hour, day by day. This time, however, that would make for quite a boring and repetitive read. The truth is, we didn’t exactly do that much during our three days’ stay. A lot of lounging, eating good food and having drinks, and enjoying the rare-ish opportunity to be in each other’s company.

So instead, let us paint you an picture of a typical Transloadit day in Mallorca.

Early morning view of the bay

For a select few, the day started right before the crack of dawn for an early morning swim in the sea. We don’t want to gloat, but having the bay all to yourself while watching the sun rise over the cliffs is truly something to experience!

Breakfast buffet at the hotel

After an energizing workout, it was time for some food. For the next hour or two, Transloadians dropped in at their leisure to sit down at our table in the dining hall. From there, many a trip was made to the lavishly stocked buffet, which had different things on offer each day. Champagne for breakfast? Champagne for breakfast!

UV index display showing very high levels

With the bellies full, the remainder of the morning was spent inside and around the swimming pool, getting our laps in before the midday sun became too punishing. Then, as the UV index rocketed into the deep red, we retreated inside for a few hours. This time too was well spent: either having a siesta, scheduling a visit to the spa facilities, or having a KPop Demon Hunters watch party – a clear favorite of our youngest travel companions.

Transloadians relaxing by the pool

Swimming in the bay

At around 2 PM, it was back to the pool (or the beach) for swimming and cocktails, swimming and cocktails, and more swimming and cocktails. And to mix things up, some pizza and chicken tenders. Rinse and repeat until the pool closed and the dinner buffet opened.

Evenings were spent on the terrace outside the dining area, where a long table was again specially reserved for us. Perhaps even more so than in the morning, the buffet had everything on offer one could possibly desire, from scrumptious starter to delicious desert. And if it didn’t, a trio of chefs stood at the ready to make it so. As the scorching day gave way to sweltering dusk, everyone dined to their stomach’s content until they could dine no more.

Evening dinner with the team

When all our fellow hotel guests had long gone and even after the cleaning crew started scrubbing down the kitchen, we stayed right where we were, enjoying another glass and talking about the good things in life.

And when our faces at long last met the pillow, we knew that the next day – to quote a brilliant and appropriate song by Talking Heads – will not be any different, will be exactly the same.

End credits

Looking out over the bay one final time before departure

We hope you enjoyed this brief recap of our latest team meetup only a fraction as much as we relished in the trip itself. We feel grateful and fortunate for having such a good group of humans to call our co-workers, and it has thoroughly invigorated us to continue bringing you the best file uploading and transcoding service imaginable. After all, if we maintain our excellence, we may just be able to treat ourselves to another one of these trips.
