PNG preserves transparency and uses lossless compression, making it useful for editing, graphics, and software that cannot read AVIF. A PNG result is usually much larger than the AVIF source because AVIF uses newer, more efficient compression.
Keep the AVIF original when storage and delivery efficiency matter. Use PNG when lossless pixels, alpha transparency, or compatibility with an editing workflow matters more than file size.
