What is an MP2 File?
An MP2 file contains lossy audio encoded with MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer II. The format remains associated with broadcasting, digital television, radio, and MPEG transport streams.
How MP2 Files work
MP2 carries MPEG Audio Layer II frames, which use subband analysis, psychoacoustic bit allocation, and lossy quantization. Its predictable decoding and tolerance of transmission conditions helped it remain useful in professional broadcast chains even after newer consumer codecs appeared.
