What is Simulive?

Simulive presents prerecorded media according to a live schedule, giving viewers a synchronized event without a live camera feed. Interactive elements such as chat or moderation may still operate in real time.

How Simulive works

A simulive system advances a stored asset against a shared event clock and exposes only the portion that would be available in a genuine live broadcast. Viewers joining late can be placed at the current program position rather than starting from the beginning, depending on product policy. The media is deterministic, but scheduling, access, chat, polls, and operator actions remain live system concerns. Packaging and playout therefore combine on-demand source reliability with live-channel timing.

Key facts

  1. A prerecorded master can be quality-checked before air, yet the playout path still needs live monitoring because scheduler, manifest, CDN, and entitlement failures occur in real time.
  2. Clock source and time-zone handling are operational dependencies; daylight-saving changes or inconsistent server clocks can start the same event at different moments.
  3. Seeking and pause behavior must be defined deliberately: allowing unrestricted controls can reveal future content or move a viewer away from the shared event position.
