How JPEG XT works

The XT family augments a conventional JPEG representation with additional data that capable decoders combine with the base result. That layered design lets an ordinary reader produce a usable standard-dynamic-range picture while an XT reader recovers extended precision or other features. Separate parts of the specification address container structure, integer and floating-point HDR samples, scalable lossless reconstruction, and transparency. Asset validation must therefore report the implemented XT part and profile rather than a single generic support flag.
