Yesterday at 10:49 a.m., we had an issue that affected 2.7% of our customers.

A few weeks ago, we have emailed all of our customers who are using the /image/optimize Robot with a custom value for its png_tool parameter, informing them about the upcoming removal of said parameter and how it might break backwards compatibility for them.

For a long time now, Transloadit has had a system in place to decide which encoding jobs are handled first. Since it costs a lot less time and resources to spawn a job than to actually process it, we regularly need to scale up machines in order to handle whatever our end users are throwing at us.

Here's just a quick note and some instructions for Node.js Knockout. Node Knockout is a 48-hour long hackathon featuring Node.js. It is an online, virtual competition with contestants from all over the world. Coding takes place from November 7, 2015 0:00 UTC to November 8, 2015 23:59 UTC. Judging and public voting take place the following week.

dotJS is the largest JavaScript conference in Europe, and a great place for developers to meet and learn from each other.

I was writing internal documentation on how I set up automated language checking at Transloadit. Halfway through, I figured this could be useful to the rest of the world 🌎 as well, so I rewrote it in a more generic fashion. I will attempt to first give a high-level overview of the problem, before driving all the way down to the low-level nuts and bolts of solving it. I hope you'll enjoy, here goes!

Encoding is hard work for servers. When we started this business, we knew from the start that it would be much easier for customers to send us jobs than it would be for us to process them. Given highly variable bursts in encoding jobs and a finite budget, queues are inherent to this business.

Transloadit has been growing steadily for some time now. We are very pleased to announce that we have made some considerable performance upgrades over the past few weeks, which will make the average Assembly run faster by about 20-40%.

Yesterday afternoon, we unfortunately had an incident that lasted for approximately 90 minutes. This incident was caused by a bug that we placed into the system ourselves.

It has been a while since we mentioned tus, but there have been some cool developments and we would like to refresh your memory.

Since we started in 2009, Amazon S3 has been our primary way of doing file exports. At that time, the best Amazon CLI tool we could find was Tim Kay's aws utility. It was a low-dependency, fully-featured toolkit to do much of our AWS heavy lifting.
